Tis the Season

Report Date: December 4, 2015

I started the month of November sword fishing off Fort Lauderdale. The weather was beautiful. Not a cloud in the sky and flat calm! Out of the three trips we fished we captured 2 swords and had another 10 bites. Most of the fish were on the smaller side but there were a few grabbed over two hundred pounds by some local commercial boats in the area. You really had to pay attention to the rod tip because the bites were very subtle

.
Towards the middle of the month we entered RJ Boyles swordfish tournament and boy was it rough. Northeast winds 20-25kts with scattered t storms all day. Luckily, do to some intel the captain heard at the captains meeting we decided to fish out front instead of making a 25 mile venture to the south. It was the right move because within the first two hours we killed a 49lb swordfish good for second place. Out of the 14 boats that participated there were only 2 fish caught. Shortly after we boated the sword we landed a 200 lb thresher shark. To our advantage, being so far north, the ride home was bearable and we didn’t have to beat into the north swells for 40 miles.

A few days after the sword tournament, when the wind really picked up from the east, the reef action came to life. Kite fishing being the preferred method has been producing gaffer dolphin, sailfish, sharks, tunas, and the occasional wahoo.

I still have some openings for this December. Gift certificates are also available for the holiday season. Give me a call and lets fish!!
