Summertime blues

Report Date: August 11, 2019

I haven't done a whole lot of fishing this past month because I was travelling with the family. We spent a couple weeks in Bermuda and I was only able to do a handful of trips in Florida.

Fishing in Bermuda was good to us this summer. We caught a handful of Blue marlin along with some wahoo, tuna, and nighttime snapper. The marlin fishing was a little bit slow for us this year but the wahoo and tuna made for it.

Back in Florida there have been a lot of mangove snapper showing up at night. We anchor on the second reef with chum and catch them on light tackle spin rods. These are fun to catch for all ages. It is good action and gives you a break from the Florida sun.

Asides from the snapper there have been some wahoo, bonito, kingfish, and tuna on the reef with the occasional sailfish. Fishing has been better in the morning while using artificials and bonita strips trolled behind the boat.

We are coming into Cubera time which can reach up to 100lbs. These are caught on the August and September full moons drifting over deeper wrecks using lobster for bait. If you have never caught one of these monsters of the deep they will be one of the hardest fighting fish you will encounter in South Florida. I would highly recommend this specialty trip if you have never done one before.

Inshore fishing has been on fire over the past couple weeks. The snook are in full spawn mode. We are catching some monsters trolling rapalas on the channel edges and also catching big numbers drifting live bait on the outgoing tide between Port Everglades and Government Cut.

I still have some availabilities towards the end of the month as well as next month. If you would like to book a trip you can contact me by email or on my cell phone. 754-244-2531.

Tight lines,

Capt Fred David
